Adult Ministries

These small groups of various types provide opportunities for us all to get to know one another better--to experience "a church within a church." If no contact person is listed, please contact the church office for more information by using the Contact Us link on the Site Menu or by calling 218-847-4818.

GROW: Small Groups for Every Season

GROW Booklets, published several times a year, present small group opportunities for all ages: a variety of ways to learn and grow in faith.  These groups meet on various days and times in order to fit different schedules. Pick up your copy at the church.

Spirit Searching:  Books & Discussion

This Monday morning group of deep thinkers selects books to read together and has lively discussions after a healthy oatmeal breakfast. Mondays at 7:00 am. Contact Diana Johnson for more information.

Tuesday Morning Bible Study

Regularly meets at 9:30 in the church fellowship hall for a Bible study. For more information or to find out the current study topic, please contact the church office.

DLUMC’s choir usually sings at the 10:15 worship on Sunday mornings. It is well-known for its Christmas and Easter cantatas, presented at both Sunday services during those celebratory seasons. The choir rehearses certain Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm and Sunday mornings at 9:15 preceding 10:15 worship. Please check out the Music Ministry page for more information.

Partners In Prayer

This group prays for our church and its members and families.  Everyone is welcome to join.  Meet in the pastor's office on Wednesdays at 4:00pm.

Thursday Bible Study

Reva Husby leads a women’s Bible study on Thursday mornings from 10-11 from mid-September to mid-May. Because the study is held in Reva’s home, there is a limit on the number of people who can be accommodated. When there is an opening, new members are welcome. To find out if there is a spot for you at this time, please contact Reva; she can tell you more about the current topic of study as well.

The Gentle Men

This men's group meets for breakfast in a reserved area of the restaurant at the Holiday Inn.  The Gentle Men meet on the first and third Fridays of each month at 7:30 am. The time together provides an opportunity to become better acquainted, develop meaningful friendships, and discuss topics of interest and concern.  All men are welcome to attend.  For more information, please contact Phletus Williams (218-863-5388).

Mary-Martha Circle

A social circle for women meeting on the third Thursday of each month at 9:30 am.  Members take turns presenting a short devotional program, accompanied by discussion. Refreshments are served. A “Sunshine” ministry sees to cards for shut-ins, birthdays, and those ill/hospitalized. For more information please contact Gwen Marine (847-6602).

Women's Fellowship & Service

An informally organized group of women who gather monthly for fellowship and/or a service project. Some of the projects include shopping for Christmas gifts for families in need and delivering Valentines to shut-ins. For more information, please contact Karen Schultz (844-6742).

Friendly Visitors

For people who are shut-in, no longer able to get out and about, and/or are no longer able to attend worship at DLUMC.  These people (or their friends) may request a Friendly Visitor, and volunteers from the congregation pay a friendly visit about once a month. For more information about this ministry, contact Rick Pechmann, Ministry Coordinator, at 847-4818.

Stephen Ministry

In Stephen Ministry congregations, trained lay caregivers (called Stephen Ministers) provide one-to-one Christian care to the bereaved, hospitalized, terminally ill, separated, divorced, unemployed, relocated, and others facing a crisis or life challenge. Stephen Ministry helps pastors and congregations provide quality caring ministry for as long as people need it. For more information check out the Stephen Ministry page. If you would like to request a Stephen Minister contact Rick Pechmann, Ministry Coordinator, at 847-4818.

Potluck Groups

Members from DLUMC meet for a potluck meal and fellowship about once a month. It is a time to get better acquainted with a smaller group of people and share good food and conversation, often about a selected topic of interest. If you are interested in joining/forming a potluck group, please contact the church office at 847-4818.

Angel Food

This ministry connects to people with the hospitality of food. Families in crisis, families with a new baby, older folks who don't cook, people who are/have been ill--these are some of the main targets of this ministry. Both individuals and service groups within the church stock the Angel Food freezer (located in the storage room off the fellowship hall); food can be accessed by those who need it.
You may donate to Angel Food by cooking or baking for the freezer. Instructions for packaging your food contributions can be found on the freezer door. You may also donate to Angel Food with a check to DLUMC; write "Angel Food" in the memo blank. Inform the church office if you know of anyone who needs some Angel Food.
